Chobe National Park Day Tour

Chobe National Park Excursions

Visitors to the Victoria Falls who have not entered through Botswana and have not yet had the opportunity to visit Chobe National Park should definitely not miss a half-day or full-day safari through Chobe National Park.

The legendary Chobe National Park has the highest game population of all game reserves in southern Africa. The elephant population in particular is huge! In addition to the many elephants, the Chobe also has large herds of different antelope species such as puku, lechwe, kudu, impala and waterbuck, as well as giraffes, zebras and wildebeest. The African herbivores attract big cats such as lions, leopards and cheetahs as well as hyenas. Right on the Chobe River there are plenty of hippos, crocodiles, buffalo and much more. The Chobe National Park is also home to around 440 species of birds.

The Chobe National Park can be explored as a self-driver with off-road vehicle experience, but guided tours through the park are also recommended. For guided safaris through the Chobe National Park, we work with the professional Botswana tourism company “Kalahari Tours”.

Chobe full day tour

Kalahari Tours will pick you up from your accommodation in either Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe) or Livingstone (Zambia) at 7 a.m., drive you towards Kasane to the respective border crossing at Kazungula and complete the border formalities with you.

After entering Botswana, you will meet your guide at the “Kalahari Tours” office, register for the day tour and receive a small, delicious breakfast.

Chobe boat trip in the morning

The day typically begins at 9:30 a.m. with an eventful, relaxing Chobe River cruise into the park, where you have the opportunity to view a variety of water birds as well as the ever-present crocodiles and hippos. Chobe is known for numerous large herbivores that come to the river to drink, especially - as already mentioned - buffalo and elephants, which also like to swim in the water. The rare puku and lechwe are often seen on the Chobe islands, and kudu, impala and waterbuck can be found on the banks.

After the boat trip, a hearty lunch will be served at the Coffee Buzz restaurant.

Chobe game drive in the afternoon

After the one-hour lunch break, you will be picked up for a game drive through the Chobe in open 4x4 vehicles. Here you can get very close to nature. The rides typically take place along the waterfront where wildlife gather to quench their thirst, with lions often lying in the shade waiting to stalk prey or simply dozing under the trees. Speaking of which: lions are often spotted in Chobe National Park. Eland, sable and roan antelope are not uncommon at certain times of the year. Leopards are difficult to find but are common in the area - you might be lucky enough to pick up one of their tracks and find one of these incredible predators.

After the safari drive, vehicles will return to the relevant border at approximately 4:30 p.m. and you will be returned to Victoria Falls or Livingstone at approximately 5:30 p.m.

For anyone who can't stay overnight in Botswana, the Chobe day trip is a must!
